TIRED OF CARRYING HEAVY BURDENS?

June 9, 2023

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NLT)

With all of the responsibilities on my plate, people often ask me how I handle so much “stuff” without becoming weary or overwhelmed by problems.

Galatians 6:9 (AMPC) provides guidance for all of us. Paul tells us not to lose heart and grow weary in doing good for in due time, we’ll reap blessings “if we don’t loosen and relax our courage.” You see, emotional exhaustion creeps in when we begin to let go of our courage.

To “lose heart” describes times when situations are ongoing, difficult and still unrewarded. What can help us to hang onto our courage and keep going? We need to consistently refresh our minds in God’s Word. Renewing your mind fires up your imagination and ability to dream. Out of a revived spirit, you can suddenly draw joy, peace and the resolve to continue.

You see, you don’t have to labour in your own power because God offers you His energy, strength and mind. (See 1 Corinthians 2:16 and Ephesians 3:16.) Resting in Him will help you rise up and move beyond anything you could ever accomplish on your own.

If you’re struggling with weariness, Jesus’ invitation still stands. Start spending time with Him through His Word every day. It might be fifteen minutes listening to half a message that touched you, reading a devotional like this every morning or speaking verses aloud. Personally, I do a devotion every morning and evening. When you come to Jesus, you find an incredible rest available to power you through life every day.
