STAY AWARE

May 17, 2022

So Peter… walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and waves, he was terrified and began to sink. Matthew 14:29-30 (NLT)

When you think about it, every day you have reason to laugh and reason to cry. If you think hard enough, you can find things to be grateful for and just as easily find things that make you angry or sad.

What do you focus on in life?

If all you think about is what is going wrong, that awareness makes molehills feel like mountains. The truth is, you tend to create more of what you focus on. For example, Peter only continued to walk on the water as long as he stayed aware of, or focused on, Jesus. But when Peter’s awareness moved to the storm, he began to sink.

Jesus grabbed Peter’s hand, and Peter’s awareness returned to Jesus. Instead of focusing on the storm, he focused on Jesus and he was lifted out of the water and walked back to the boat.

Do you focus on whatever screams the loudest? Or do you consciously control your focus and direct it back to the things of God?

Ask Holy Spirit to help you become more aware of His presence as you go about your week. You can also ask for His presence to be with your family—to guard and protect them everywhere they go—because the presence of God can be released by you through prayer. Ask Holy Spirit to guard their hearts. Declare that no harm comes to them and no sickness or disease touches their body.

Remember—to walk in the miraculous power of God and experience His promises, you need to maintain an awareness of Holy Spirit every day.
