Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. Hebrews 12:3 (ESV)
Many people find themselves mentally or emotionally burned out and think they have no choice but to suffer through it. But that’s not the case. The Bible gives us several ways to combat burnout effectively.
Whenever I sense weariness pushing against me, I press deeper into my relationship with God. I get into His Word and let Holy Spirit revive me internally with His incredible peace and joy.
Another practical key to switching off exhaustion is to open your eyes to other people who are going through worse. Whenever I start feeling myself draining mentally or emotionally, I remember I have so much to be grateful for and that immediately changes my perspective.
Also, whenever you sense certain feelings rising up, realize that you are not your emotions. Feelings result from our focus, thoughts and words. They rise from our strongest beliefs. A great radar system for tackling exhaustion is to simply recognize the source that’s causing your feelings—whether it’s sickness pushing against you, financial stress or a family-related problem.
You can cast off weariness just by knowing the cause. Once you identify it, make a firm decision to outlast it, outwork it and not give into it. These approaches have helped me get through many tough times.
Regardless of what you’re going through, you don’t need to succumb to exhaustion. You can successfully free yourself from it just by practising a few simple, effective strategies.
