Are You Expecting Too Little?

December 1, 2021

How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, and grieved Him in the desert! Yes, again and again they tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. Psalm 78:40–41 (NKJV)

If you focus on your own lack and on the size of your problems, you will lose hope. Instead, think big!

When the Israelites left Egypt and made their way toward their Promised Land, they grieved and limited God because they expected too little. God had miraculously delivered the Israelites from slavery and He wasn’t about to stop helping them. He had a country prepared for them—a land with herds of cows, flocks of sheep, honey farms, houses and cities already built that the Israelites could fight for and win. This land was God’s best—His will for their generation—but they never experienced it because they expected too little.

Are you expecting too little in life? Too little in your relationships or your finances? Too little when it comes to your peace of mind? Too little when it comes to reaching others or doing great things for God? Don’t limit your experience in life by thinking too small!

When the Israelites reached the edge of the Jordan River, instead of fighting for what had been given to them, they cowered in fear. They didn’t think they could have what they had been promised because they were focused on what they lacked instead of on God’s strength and provision. They forgot what God had done for them (Psalm 78:42–43).

Remember how big God is and how great His plans are for you. He laid out His will for your life in His promises in the Bible, and every promise is within your reach. Keep fighting to believe! He’s not about to leave you now!
