“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come.” Habakkuk 2:2–3 (NKJV)
In Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) it says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” A Spanish translation adds that without vision, people go unrestrained like wild horses. Wild horses are beautiful, but you can’t get anything done with them. They are undisciplined. On the other hand, people who have vision want guidelines, routines and habits to follow to keep them on course.
Having a vision for every area of your life is vital if you want to be disciplined and effective. So, how do we develop vision?
God speaks in the language of visions and dreams. He loves to guide and direct us towards His best! Habakkuk 2:1 (NLT) says, “I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says.” Notice that he didn’t say, “I will wait to see if the Lord says anything.” Holy Spirit will guide your vision. That’s for certain. The question is… will you maintain it?
After Habakkuk waited to hear from God, God told him to write the vision down. When you regularly meditate on God’s Word, the vision of the future He has in mind for you will become clearer to you. Write down what you see and keep adding to the description as your understanding grows. As you do what you can to bring the vision about, watch how God causes it to unfold!
