Introduction

Even among Christians, there are a lot of misconceptions about Holy Spirit. In reality, Holy Spirit is everything that God and Jesus are—but He lives within us. He is our comforter, helper, guide, strengthener, and so much more!

When you learn to get in tune with Holy Spirit, He can lead you to opportunities, transformation, and miracles greater than your wildest dreams.

In this eBook, you'll learn five roles of Holy Spirit that will ignite your passion to pursue a relationship with Him and bring His power into every area of your life.

Holy Spirit is a Person

In John 14:16 (ESV), Jesus referred to Holy Spirit as “another Comforter.” The word “another” does not mean different. It means exactly the same. In other words, Holy Spirit functions exactly the same as Jesus.

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever.
John 14:16 (AMP)

Jesus did not leave us with someone less wonderful or someone we have to settle for. He left us with someone exactly like Him.

Holy Spirit leads, heals, comforts, and helps us to know truth—just as Jesus did when He walked the planet. And He can bring power into your life as you have never experienced before.

When you think of Holy Spirit, do not think of a blob or a vapour. He is a person, just as Jesus is a person, and He is with you everywhere you go!

Not only is Holy Spirit the same as Jesus, but Hebrews 1:3 (NIV) says, “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being.” In other words, Jesus is exactly the same as God.

Some view Jesus as loving and God as hard and judging. This picture is wrong. Jesus said, “He who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9, NKJV).

It may be easy to picture Jesus as loving, kind, and compassionate because of His acts here on Earth, but we need to realize that He points you to God’s true nature. Open your eyes to how awesome, loving, and amazing God really is!

Holy Spirit Helps You Dream

Holy Spirit’s job is to show you things to come. He helps you to dream about your future.

Let’s say you struggle with anger. You’re disappointed with yourself as a parent because you’ve lost your temper with your kids so many times that now they shrink back from you. You know it’s God’s will for you to have peace and patience, but you just can’t seem to change.

It’s time to take a new approach.

Meditate on Galatians 5:22. This verse tells you that peace, long-suffering, and patience are fruits of the Spirit. Really think about the fact that these are yours. Remind yourself that the ability to be patient and to have peace are not functions of your rational mind. They come from God. It’s by His grace that you have the power to be patient. His grace gives you the ability to be at peace even when everything is going wrong.

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26 (ESV)

Let these words change the way you see yourself. Imagine yourself being patient. See yourself calm where you normally wouldn’t be. See yourself doing the things that feel impossible right now.

This is how powerful change can take place within you—step by step, day by day. It’s not simply by asking God to take away your anger and give you peace. He’s already given you peace and patience and the ability to learn how to walk in them!

Meditate on God’s Word and picture the fulfillment of His promises in your life. This will change the beliefs in your heart, then your emotions and actions will follow. See yourself as the new you—the person Jesus has already made you to be—and nothing you imagine from God’s Word will be impossible for you!

Holy Spirit Brings You Understanding

First John 2:27 says that Holy Spirit lives in you, and He reveals things to you directly. This truth is very important when it comes to changing the beliefs of your heart.

But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.
1 John 2:27 (NLT)

Your heart holds your deepest beliefs about life, God, yourself, and the world. These beliefs help shape your future. So, if you want to experience the incredible life God has for you, you need to get your beliefs from Him.

Other influences may currently dominate the beliefs of your heart. Teachers, parents, friends, TV, tragedies, experts, books you’ve read, and movies you’ve watched have all played a part in forming what you believe. But Holy Spirit can help you drown out old, destructive beliefs with the truth of God’s Word.

How do you get these Biblical beliefs to impact what you believe in your heart? Meditation is one key, but you also need to involve Holy Spirit. You see, Holy Spirit helps to reveal what you need to understand. It’s this revelation that forms the right beliefs and challenges the misbeliefs you hold deep in your heart. Just knowing the Bible intellectually isn’t enough. As you develop the right beliefs, your expectations change, and this begins to change your experience.

Today, meditate on the fact that Holy Spirit actually lives within you. He is helping you right now to change the beliefs of your heart to better line up with God’s Word. Ask Him to show you which scriptures to meditate on. Talk to Him as you read God’s Word and let Him help you plant it deep in your heart!

Holy Spirit Gives You Direction

If you often wake up with a knot in your stomach because of fear, anxiety, worry, or stress, remember that Holy Spirit is in you. As a believer, Holy Spirit is always with you, constantly guiding you, and wants to lead you into your best life. The future is not something you need to fear.

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:15 (NLT)

It's important to not let anxieties and worry take root in your life. They are fear-based and can make you sick. Disease at its very root is dis-ease; it means you’re not at ease. Instead, you can have the peace of God—a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

A healthy respect benefits you, but fear never does. Think about it. A healthy respect for fire will keep you safe. But a fear of fire will give you nightmares and keep you up at night. There is no place for fear in your life because Holy Spirit is in you.

No matter what tomorrow holds or what’s happening in your world today, Holy Spirit will never leave you. He will lead you around and through the storms of life. His plans for you are amazing. Even if you miss out on an opportunity, an even better one is waiting for you just around the corner!

Holy Spirit is Always With You

When Jesus was with His disciples, they walked together, ate together, and lived their lives together. They were connected. This is the type of relationship that the word “fellowship” describes. Fellowship is so much more than a shallow relationship between acquaintances.

When Paul prayed for the Corinthian church, he prayed that the “fellowship of the Holy Spirit” would be with them all (2 Corinthians 13:14, NLT). It’s interesting that he chose to say the fellowship of Holy Spirit, not the fellowship of God, or Jesus. Although the three are one, he did this for a reason.

The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.
2 Corinthians 13:14 (MSG)

When Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden, God walked and talked with them. Later, Jesus walked and talked with His disciples. But after the Day of Pentecost, we hear only of Holy Spirit’s work on the planet. Today Holy Spirit fellowships with mankind—and He does this from within us.

Holy Spirit is with you all the time, but you need to decide if you will walk and talk with Him every day. As you are reading the Bible, imagine He is standing beside you with His arm on your shoulder, saying, “Okay, let me show you what this means.” When you’re listening to a message, ask Him to show you what you need to know, and He will subtly but beautifully bring certain parts of what is being said to your attention.

The key to becoming more like Jesus is fellowshipping with Holy Spirit. Live your life connected to Him at all times!

Conclusion

Just like God wants to be in relationship with you—and Jesus sacrificed everything for you—Holy Spirit's love for you is just a great. He wants to be there for you in every situation and help you be the best you, the version you were created to be.
