When Jesus died, the disciples thought they had lost Him. They were stunned when the three awe-inspiring years they had spent with Jesus came to such a tragic ending. But that wasn’t the end of the story.
Death can seem so final. When I was a child, a friend passed away suddenly, and for the first time I faced questions that seemed to have no answer. I was shocked, hurt and angry.
Something my parents taught me at this time was that life will always involve battles to fight and disappointments to bear—but they also taught me about Heaven. I learned it was as real as the world I walked in every day, and because of Jesus’ sacrifice for me, it would one day be my home. Knowing that I would eventually be with many of the people I had lost didn’t take away all the pain of losing them, but I could celebrate that they were in a beautiful place full of love and laughter.
I also recognized that if I became too focused on this world, I would miss the big picture. We make decisions on this planet that we will live out for eternity. And choosing whether or not to follow Jesus is the biggest decision anyone can ever make in life.
Eventually I made it my life’s goal to give as many people as possible the opportunity to make this decision. As a result, my life serving Jesus has been an incredible adventure!
