Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. Romans 12:3 (NLT)
Many people get themselves into stressful situations because they’re trying to be something they’re not.
When you don’t realize your worth in God’s eyes, you look for validation in other ways. For example, you might look for it in achievements, working toward a certain job title or income.
Now, moving up the corporate ladder and increasing your income are not bad goals. If you’re maintaining your relationship with God and you feel peace about pursuing a position, go for it!
On the other hand, if you have no peace and you feel like you need that next level of achievement to feel okay about yourself, it’s a problem. If you don’t reach that level, you’ll feel inadequate. And if you do reach it, you may develop an exaggerated sense of importance—especially if you start looking down your nose at those who haven’t reached your level. You will centre your life around accomplishments, and there’s not much room for God in a life like that.
The most unfortunate part of this problem is that you may end up in a position that you were never designed for. You may actually get the “top dog” position, but then find that you’re stressed out and unhappy because God designed you for something else.
God hand-crafted you to be fantastic at several things in life, and through your relationship with Him you can feel completely fulfilled no matter what your official title (or lack of title) is. Don’t be afraid to pursue what He’s leading you to do.
