As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” Mark 4:35 (NLT)
Never let storms decide your direction or your destiny. Some people go through life letting problems dictate where they go, what they do and whether they quit. Or they follow the “door theory.” They think, “If there’s an open door, it’s God, and if it’s a closed door, it’s God.” It’s the same concept as following whichever direction the storm blows, but that’s Old Testament theology.
The New Testament says, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God” (Romans 8:14, NLT). So, we follow Holy Spirit’s lead, not open or closed doors.
Can you imagine Jesus shrugging His shoulders and telling His disciples, “Well, a storm has come up. I guess God doesn’t want us to cross this lake”? He never spoke like that. Jesus did not allow storms to decide His direction or His destiny. He simply said, “Let’s go to the other side.” He established their direction. And even though bad weather blew in, it didn’t change where they were headed. Jesus and His disciples still crossed to the other side, despite the storm.
As you allow Holy Spirit to lead you down the paths He has planned for you, don’t allow storms to steer you off course. If God says, “Go this way,” but there’s a wide-open door in another direction, don’t concern yourself with that open door.
If God tells you to go through a closed door, kick it in! That’s the attitude you have to hold on the inside—one that says, “I don’t care what’s coming at me. This is where God wants me to go and He is with me.” Your destiny awaits on the other side!
