Remember the Lord [Know him] in all you do [on all your paths], and he will give you success [keep your roads straight]. Proverbs 3:6 (EXB)
Yesterday we covered two ways to train your heart: meditating on and practicing God’s Word regularly. Today we’ll look at two more exercises to add to your heart workout.
3. Give God’s Word first place in your life.
I don’t just mean making time for devotions. I’m talking about giving the Word precedence in every decision in life. If I’m sick, I’ll see a doctor or change my diet, but I don’t give those things first place. First and foremost, I focus on God’s promises about healing. In business, I learn strategies, but I don’t depend on earthly wisdom. I give the Word first place and allow it to guide me in my specific situation.
4. Instantly obey the voice of Holy Spirit.
The more you meditate on the Word, practice it and give it first place in your life, the more you come to recognize Holy Spirit's still, small voice. When you sense Him prompting you to do something, go somewhere or speak to someone, just do it! As you practice listening and obeying, you become good at it.
This is the most exciting way to live. As you train your heart and the Word becomes firmly established in you, you’ll find God's power flows through you into every situation.
Remember, this ability is a gift. It was secured by Jesus at the cross for you, and now your responsibility is to train your heart to use it. Holy Spirit can’t wait to work with you, coach you and flow through you to touch the lives of the people in your world!
