TIME TO START SWIMMING!

June 14, 2022

Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourself completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. Romans 6:13 (NLT)

I grew up with a dad who loved Jesus passionately. After he passed away, I began to take stock of the valuable lessons I had learned from him.

One thing my dad taught me was that living sold out to God was the only way to go. He would say, “Everything we have comes from Him. We are no longer our own. The day you give your life to Jesus Christ, you give up your right to have it your way and need to accept God’s way.”

My dad knew only one way to live, and that was all-in. He couldn’t understand people who stayed in the shallow end when it came to their faith. He used to say some people get just enough Christianity to “wet their ankles.” He loved encouraging them to “move into the waters of the presence of God—not just up to your ankles, but up to your knees. Then up to your chest. Then get your feet off the ground and start swimming!”

You see, once your feet can’t touch the bottom anymore, you don’t have the same control. For my dad, it meant he didn’t need to have control over his life—he thrived living in complete submission to Jesus’ authority and guidance.

So don’t be afraid to move beyond your comfort zone and give yourself entirely to God. You’ll discover the more you surrender control of your life to Jesus, the more confident you’ll grow as you learn you can depend on Him to help you overcome in every way.
