TIME TO FIRE UP YOUR IMAGINATION!

January 18, 2023

Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long. Psalm 119:97 (NLT)

Using your imagination is essential to meditating on God’s Word. Imagination is the part of your mind that can transcend time. You can pull up a childhood memory and instantly relive it. Or you can look ahead fifty years and picture your house full of three generations partying around the Christmas tree.

When it comes to doing devotions, we also need to engage our God-given imaginations. For instance, if you’re in the worst situation of your life, what can you do? You can get into God’s Word and let your imagination take the reins as you read His promises to you. Even though perhaps nothing in your life currently reflects it, picture His promises coming to fruition in your life and thank Him for it. This is how imagination and meditation walk hand in hand.

For example, you might say, “God, thank You that I walk through every situation with Your wisdom and You supply for all my needs according to Your riches and glory” (Philippians 4:19). If you’re struggling through a loss or hardship, meditate on relevant verses and visualize what God says. You might declare, “Lord, Psalm 30:5 says joy follows tears. So I’m going to embrace Your joy because it is my strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).

God gave us imaginations not only to daydream but to help us meditate or “see through the eyes of faith.” It means to not look at your circumstances but the answer.

Firing up your imagination will bring faith to your heart and help you stand strong!
