For through the eternal and living Word of God you have been born again. And this “seed” that he planted within you can never be destroyed but will live and grow inside of you forever. 1 Peter 1:23 (TPT)
The Word of God is unkillable, unstoppable seed. As you spend time in devotions every day—reading the Bible and talking to God—you are planting the powerful seeds of His Word into the soil of your heart where it can begin to grow.
Now, it’s interesting how some Bible translations phrase today’s scripture. For example, the Amplified Classic translation uses the word “sperm” in parentheses to expand on the seed analogy.
We know we have to plant watermelon seeds in the ground for watermelons to grow. And when sperm comes together with an egg, new life is born. The instant the Word gets into your mind and heart, it gives birth to new things on the inside of you. It can begin to grow correct beliefs against sickness. It can deliver joy in sorrow. If you’re in a dismal place, it can birth a whole new way of thinking and living life! However, if you stop doing devotions, the development of joy, comfort and a sense of strength against temptation will begin to dissipate.
According to Mark chapter 4, just like farmers, we plant seeds of positive things like joy and peace—or negative stuff such as anger and jealousy—weeks or even months before we reap them.
That’s good motivation to continually plant the seeds of God’s Word in your heart. The more you do, the more you’ll enjoy a daily harvest of wisdom, strength and courage to guide you victoriously through life!
