THE FUTURE IS YOURS

May 10, 2022

For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. Matthew 12:34 (NLT)

Do you limit your future with small thinking?

Yesterday we read Mark 4:21, which talks about the foolishness of hiding a lamp under a bed. It can’t illuminate the room if it’s covered. It needs to be on a lampstand.

In the same way, God’s Word has the ability to shed light on your life, but it can’t do that when it stays on the pages of your Bible, hidden in a drawer. It has to be brought up into your mind before it can do its work on your heart beliefs and really make a difference in your life.

When you hold onto beliefs that don’t line up with God’s Word, those beliefs limit you. The good thing is, the Word can cause you to think big. But first you have to do the work of getting it into your heart.

How do you know when your beliefs are limiting you? Pay attention to the words that come out of your mouth. According to Jesus in today’s verse, they show what you really believe in your heart. Saying things like, “I can’t change. I was raised this way,” or “Our family always struggles with finances” may seem logical. But your past doesn’t have to determine your future. When you gave your life to Jesus, you were made new. Your future is in your hands.

As you go to church regularly, listen to great preaching and read your Bible and good Christian books, your thinking will start to expand. And remember—you are a new creature. You have been given God’s Word and Holy Spirit as your coach and instructor, so the future is yours!
