STANDING IN THE GAP

December 21, 2022

So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Ezekiel 22:30 (NKJV)

Over the last few days, we've seen how God wants to do mighty things on this planet, but He needs to partner with people. All through the Word you'll find stories of God looking for someone to "stand in the gap.”

One example is the life of Gideon. When hordes of Midianites were destroying the Israelites' land, God could have sent an army of angels to defeat them. But instead, He picked Gideon, a timid young man with an inferiority complex. God then took the time to develop Gideon into a man of valour—and through him, the Israelites were saved.

Or consider David and Goliath. It would have looked impressive if God struck the giant down with a bolt of lightning. But He chose to send a shepherd boy with a sling and a stone. David had been killing lions and bears for years—which prepared him for that very moment.

When the political scene became turbulent and the Israelites were once again in danger, God could have rescued them with a booming announcement from Heaven. But instead, He raised up Esther, who risked her life to save her nation from the gallows.

You see, God gave mankind the authority on this planet. That means He has chosen to use you and me to accomplish His will. He needs us to pray and to act. I wonder how many promises of God are unfulfilled today because He can't find human involvement to get it done.

What does God want to do through you?
