“These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues;” Mark 16:17 (AMP)
When Jesus gave us the Great Commission to go into the world and preach the Gospel, He gave us a list of signs that would follow believers. Let’s talk about the first two today.
1. You can cast out demons. People sometimes forget that there’s more to the physical world we’re living in than what we can see. Superimposed over it is the spiritual world. And as believers, God’s Word says we have the authority to cast out evil spirits.
This doesn’t have to be weird. In fact, it’s easy to discern the Spirit of God versus an evil spirit. God’s presence is full of love, peace and clarity. The spirit of the enemy is full of hatred, confusion and fear.
When I have come across people who don’t know Christ and are dealing with demonic oppression, I don’t make a big deal. I simply tell that spirit to leave in Jesus’ name. You’ve been given the same power!
2. You can speak with new tongues. When Holy Spirit filled the believers on the day of Pentecost, they began speaking in other languages, or “tongues” (see Acts 2).
Sometimes you’re in a situation where you don’t know what to pray. As a believer, when you speak in tongues during your prayer time, you’re praying the perfect will of God over that issue. (See Romans 8:26-27.) Not only that, but praying in the Spirit is refreshing! It washes away negativity, and it recharges your spiritual batteries.
Continue to meditate on God’s Word. Discover the authority that’s yours as a believer. You’ve been chosen for a mission—sharing Jesus—and He’s given you tools to help you in any situation.
