Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession. You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots. Psalm 2:8–9 (NLT)
Years ago, God showed me how to deal more effectively with the enemy. At the time, I was consistently on the defensive, putting up with the enemy’s attacks. A financial or family-related attack would come flying in one way, and I’d throw up my shield of faith and knock it away. Then all of a sudden—incoming again! And I’d pull up my shield once more.
I held the territory that God had already given me. However, I tended just to push the enemy back to his borders and out of mine.
Then God pressed Psalm 2 onto my heart. As I read it, I realized that when Satan tries coming into my world, he’s overstepping a border that he has no right to cross. And so, when we fight back, we don’t stop at his border. We march right into his territory and start taking from him.
Well, what does the enemy have that we want? People.
I remember talking to a friend going through some health issues, who excitedly told me he had memorized all his nurses’ names, told them about Jesus and loved on them with flowers after he was released. He said, “I know Jesus didn’t do this to me, but guess what? When the devil messed with me, I decided to give him a black eye!”
What are you doing to impact the enemy’s territory? Look for ways to reach others using wisdom and love. It might be as simple as inviting a friend to church or out for a coffee.
It turns out the best defence is a good offence!
