Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)
Regularly spending time in God’s presence makes a significant impact on how you live. If there’s any question, just look at the life of David, the one who lived out—and then wrote—the words of today’s psalm.
After all, what would cause a young shepherd boy to get up and take on a giant enemy when none of Israel’s trained soldiers would? (See 1 Samuel 17.)
One reason is that he spent time daily in God’s presence, singing, worshipping and talking with Him. Another reason is that he had a proven track record of acting courageously against predators while protecting his flocks of sheep. When David faced trials or tough decisions, he waited on the Lord. That means he placed his hope in Him and expected a change to take place.
If the problems around you are tying your stomach into knots, stop staring at those problems and press into God. Follow David’s example and listen to the Word, sing songs of praise and talk with God. Sit down somewhere quiet, open your Bible and say, “Lord, You are my help and my strength.” You’ll discover His supernatural presence has a way of rising up and settling your spirit. It’s like getting an injection of peace from Holy Spirit. The fear strangling your heart will begin to fall away as you enjoy His presence. (See Philippians 4:4.)
Take it from David. Wait on the Lord, be courageous, and He will strengthen your heart to keep going, no matter what giant you’re facing!
