Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Matthew 4:19 (NLT)
As believers, Jesus makes each of us into a fisher of people.
It doesn’t matter who you are. Every believer is capable of gathering souls for God’s Kingdom. In fact, Proverbs 11:30 says those who win souls are wise.
Now, I’m not talking about pushing religion on others. That’s a turn-off to most people and is not something I do. Instead, I’ve discovered when you’re out there in the sea of life, there will be people who swim across your path that you can hook up to God.
For example, a paramedic friend told me he was walking down a hospital hall one night when he heard a weak voice call out for help. Opening a door, he found an elderly man scared and alone in his room, so he stopped briefly to chat.
As they talked, the man admitted he didn’t have long to live and feared dying. My friend responded, “Would you mind if I explained to you how you can be guaranteed to go to Heaven when you do?” The man agreed, so my friend shared God’s plan of salvation with him, and the man gave his life to Christ. Before morning arrived, that man passed away, and God welcomed him home for eternity.
I don’t know why that man was alone on his deathbed, but he made Heaven—all because my friend took a moment to share Jesus with him.
The world is overflowing with people who are hurting, lost and scared. That’s why it’s essential to keep your eyes open for chances to share Christ with others in a caring, contemporary way and impact eternity. Who can you reach today?
