HEART TRUTH IS CAUGHT, NOT TAUGHT

November 4, 2022

Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. Hebrews 13:7 (NLT)

Have you ever had a really hard time getting something across to someone? It can be so frustrating.

Maybe you’ve tried to teach your child the value of doing devotions or you want to communicate your company’s vision to your team, but they’re just not getting it. They may seem to absorb what you’re saying mentally, but because they aren’t touched at a deeper level, they don’t change.

Heart beliefs are hard to teach because they are actually caught, not taught. In order to have someone “catch” what you’re saying, they have to be open and you have to have that belief to give.

You can’t control someone’s openness, but you can control what you have to give. You see, it doesn’t matter how many facts you can quote. You could memorize a moving speech spoken by someone else and repeat it verbatim and still have no results… if your heart isn’t in it.

You have to live and breathe a heart truth in order to pass it on. When you have experienced something in a powerful way, your words penetrate the hearts of those who hear you. What flows from you is authentic and it challenges their deepest beliefs. They also examine what your life is like and only imitate you if they like what they see (Hebrews 13:7).

So, if you have an important message to share, ask yourself: “Do I really believe what I’m trying to communicate?” Spend the time it takes to solidify what you believe in your heart beforehand so it can powerfully affect people at a heart level.
