Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)
No vision is needed to be average or to maintain the status quo. To have a vision means to look ahead and stir up your faith to think bigger—to dream of what you could do and where you could go with God.
All too often, we allow our failures and losses to diminish our vision. But God doesn’t speak to you based on your past. He speaks to you based on your future. He sees your potential. God’s Word is full of people who didn’t seem to have much going for them, yet they went on to do great things.
Think of Gideon. God found him cowering in a winepress, but God called him a “mighty man of valour” (Judges 6:12)—and he went on to conquer a massive army.
Consider Esther. She had never been queen before, but God raised her up for a purpose. Instead of settling for an idyllic life in the palace, she risked her life to save her people.
Or look at Jesus’ disciples. These were twelve average young men. After Jesus spent three years teaching them to think differently and walk in God’s miraculous power, they went on to change the then-known world!
Don’t let past failures or fears of the future keep you in the safe zone. Wherever you are today, God has more for you. His vision for you is so big that in your entire lifetime, you won’t reach the end of the gifts and abilities He’s placed in you. As you get into God’s Word, ask Him to help you make His vision your vision.
