FINDING BIRDS OF A FEATHER

April 16, 2023

I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Saviour. 2 Peter 1:1 (NLT)

Have you ever heard the old saying, “Birds of a feather flock together”?

Peter actually talked about this same idea when it came to believers. In today’s scripture, Peter specifically addressed his letter to those believers who “share the same precious faith” in Christ. Why?

Because in the middle of hardship, he had personally experienced the power of sticking with like-minded believers. In Acts chapter 4, after being released from prison under threat that they no longer share the Gospel, the first thing Peter and John did was return to people who shared the same attitudes and beliefs as them (Acts 4:23).

There’s something encouraging and strengthening about keeping company with like-minded believers—especially during tough times. When you get together with people who have the same goals, the same drive and the same internal courage, something incredible happens inside you.

Look at what happened when the Apostles returned to be with their fellow believers. “All the believers were united in heart and mind” (Acts 4:32, NLT), and as they prayed together with the Apostles, the Holy Spirit filled them and “they proclaimed the word of God with unrestrained boldness” (Acts 4:31, TPT).

Now, I’m not saying you should avoid anyone who isn’t a believer or doesn’t agree with your vision or calling. But there is value in surrounding yourself with friends who share your same precious faith. They’ll help you stay strong as you walk out your God-given destiny.
