When Jesus walked the planet, the religious leaders of His time had no idea that something big was about to change. Instead of sacrificing sheep and goats to temporarily cover their sins so they could access God, Jesus was to be the ultimate sacrifice, and that would change everything.
The religious leaders were waiting for a Messiah to free them, but when He finally came, they hated Him. Their hatred led them to brutally beat and crucify the one God had sent to fulfill the prophecies they held so dear. Jesus taught clearly that He is the only way to God, but they didn’t understand what He was talking about.
Until that point, God’s presence was housed in the temple. But when Jesus died, an earthquake shook the temple and the veil that separated the place where God’s presence resided was torn. There is a powerful symbolism here. No longer was God’s presence reserved for a select few priests who had to follow strict rules and guidelines. Instead, God wanted to walk and talk with everyday men and women who have chosen a relationship with Him, just like He did with Adam and Eve.
God wants to walk and talk with you every day too. As a believer, Holy Spirit lives inside you, always accessible to you and ready to get involved in your life.
