DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE CROWD

March 24, 2023

“Be quiet!” many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Mark 10:48 (NLT)

It takes stubborn faith to hang on for a miracle—especially when the crowd says to give up.

Mark 10 shares a great example of this. A blind panhandler named Bartimaeus was begging beside the road when he heard that Jesus was nearby. Bartimaeus hollered out for Jesus, but the crowd angrily tried to shut him up. Yet Bartimaeus didn’t care if he was acting embarrassing or annoying. He shouted even louder.

Now, I’m not saying we should go out and cause embarrassing scenes or make spectacles of ourselves to get God’s attention. But I want you to see the stubborn faith at work in this man who refused to give in to public opinion.

By the way, his actions were dangerous for a blind beggar. He depended on those same people to put coins in his cup and support him. But because of his persistence and faith, Jesus ended up talking with Bartimaeus, and he received the miracle he needed.

Bartimaeus could have sat there silently as Jesus walked by. He could have given in and listened to the crowd’s demands that he be quiet. But he persevered, and the resulting interaction with Jesus changed his life!

Don’t give in to what the general populace has to say about miracles. Hang onto a stubborn faith that says, “I’m walking in the promises of God! I will not listen to the voice of the crowd.” Stubborn faith stands on what God says and lives in the miraculous, regardless of what others say!
