When there is no clear prophetic vision, people quickly wander astray. But when you follow the revelation of the Word, heaven’s bliss fills your soul. Proverbs 29:18 (TPT)
What’s your vision for your life?
A lot of people think their vocation or gifts determine their destiny. Certainly, God has placed specific abilities within you to excel and thrive in particular trades or industries. But maybe it’s time we step back and take a broader look at the word “vision.”
Today’s verse says where there’s no clear prophetic vision that people lose their way. They quickly begin to wander from what’s important. Now, everybody has some sort of vision for their life. It could run the gamut from “I want to have fifty-three sports channels and a comfortable recliner” to “I’m going to run my own company.”
God’s Word tells us we need to have a prophetic vision. The Amplified Classic translation of today’s verse describes it as a “redemptive revelation of God.” In other words, you need to allow God to come in and redeem your vision by adding His purposes to your direction. Otherwise, you’re going to be an unhappy camper—even if you’re working with your gifts.
For example, you may be talented with management, pick the right place to work and run it well, but still feel unsatisfied. Why? Because God’s vision is for His followers to reach out to those around them with the Good News. Does your vision include impacting God’s Kingdom in some way? Are God’s purposes woven into the fabric of your vision and daily life?
It’s crucial to hold visions for your life—just don’t forget to attach God’s objectives to them. As you do, they will grow richer and more rewarding with each step.
