For everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has conquered and overcome the world—our [continuing, persistent] faith [in Jesus the Son of God]. 1 John 5:4 (AMP)
Over my 40 years in the ministry, I've noticed that those who come from a more colourful past seem to have an easier time operating in the miraculous. Why is that? I believe it's because they know they can't earn God's grace, so they don't even try.
Meanwhile, I know people who live so well, I can't find a thing wrong in their lives—yet they're pickled in religion. They can't get away from a sinking feeling that they're not enough, and they struggle to experience the miraculous.
Here's the thing. Before you try to live better, you must believe on the finished work of Jesus first. Now, your behaviour is important, and it does affect your human relationships—but not your relationship with God. That's defined by what Jesus did on the cross.
Think of it this way. If you're a parent, your kids didn't have to earn your DNA, family name or the blessings that go along with being your children. They were simply born into it. The same is true for you as a born-again believer.
If you know in your head that you're forgiven and made righteous, yet still struggle to find peace, ask Holy Spirit to help you establish your heart in grace. This is crucial because the heart is where faith comes from. And it's our faith that overcomes the world (1 John 5:4).
As you come to believe and experience God's grace and love toward you, your heart will be at peace—and you'll walk in greater victory!
